This fabulous Paris luxury apartment on historic Ile St-Louis is located on the ground floor and lower level of a well-maintained 17th-century building on ultra-quiet Rue Boutarel, one of the narrow side streets of this medieval-like neighborhood popular with artists, doctors, actresses, and heiresses. And right around the corner is lively Rue Saint-Louis en l'Ile with its stores, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants, all of them enticing you with their extravagant window displays. Exuding a village-like ambiance and brimming with historical importance, this quaint little island is an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet three metro lines can easily be reached by crossing the appropriate bridge to the Left or Right Banks. You'll be one of a community of about 6,000 surrounded by fashionable shops, terrific restaurants, and 16th- and 17th-century mansions with their beautiful stone-paved courtyards. Look about and you'll find that virtually every other house boasts a plaque declaring that some artist or statesmen once lived there.
Ile St-Louis - a most special spot in one of the most special cities in the world - is only six blocks long and two blocks wide, making it easy and fun to explore. The most famous ice cream shop in Paris, Berthillon, is a few seconds away, and the river Seine is at your doorstep! Each time you cross the Pont de la Tournelle you'll have a breathtaking view of Notre-Dame that will leave you dazzled. The Latin Quarter on the Left Bank and the Marais on the Right Bank are just short strolls away, each offering unique flavors of Paris that you won't want to miss. This is truly the heart of Paris!
For lovers of fine Parisian cuisine, the proximity of rue Saint-Louis-en-l'Ile is a serious plus. Indeed, this street boasts some of the best food shops in Paris. Bakeries, cheese and wine shops, renowned meat shops, and grocery stores all vie for your attention, not to mention the numerous small cafés, restaurants and bookstores. And for the very serious food-lover, the legendary Tour d'Argent, one of France's most famous restaurants, is only a few minutes walk away on the quai de Tournelle.
Let's turn now to our enchanting Paris luxury apartment. We named it Listrac after the one of the largest vine-growing communes in the Médoc peninsula that produces a full and velvety wine with spirit and virility - the perfect blend of the fruit of the Cabernet and the power of the Merlot. We at www.parisperfect.com pride ourselves in offering only those Paris luxury vacation apartments that have the 'Wow' factor, and our Listrac property is no exception. This totally renovated and exquisitely decorated ground floor property measures 900 square feet on two levels and features large double-pane windows adorned with decorative and secure wrought-iron bars. As soon as you first step inside you will be awed by the opulent atmosphere within. Heavy wood beams adorn all of the upper level ceilings, and the floors throughout this Paris luxury apartment are finished in oak parquet or natural stone. An oversized and working white marble fireplace, functional and beautiful in its simplicity, dominates the living room and is bathed in the afternoon sun. Here and throughout the apartment, careful attention has been given to every detail in an effort to preserve its period-style décor while ensuring a pleasing and comfortable home. Characterized by warm colors, polished wood finishes, marble bathrooms, and a full array of modern amenities, this Paris luxury apartment is further enhanced with fine decorative touches such as hand-painted closets and custom-made leaded-glass windows created by Parisian artisans. Beautiful draperies, colorful oriental rugs, and decorative cushions harmoniously blend with period-style furniture to complement the building's beautiful architecture and give you a sense of what it was like to live in the 17th century.
The main level of our Paris luxury apartment, on the ground floor, measures 538 square feet and includes the foyer, living room, open-plan kitchen, master bedroom, and master bathroom. The living room, which is compact but not cramped, features a beautiful upholstered sofa in a sleigh frame of polished wood, a Louis XV-style armchair, and a glass-topped antique brass coffee table. Two tall windows overlook Rue Boutarel, and white sheer curtains behind specially crafted triple-ply drapes assure total privacy. The drapes open and close easily, and the sheer curtains, mounted just above head level and facing the side street, allow the natural light to flood in through the upper part of the windows. For dining there is a glass-topped antique wooden table and four chairs adjacent to the bar that separates the dining area from the open-plan kitchen. This extremely inviting room is completed with wood wainscoting beautiful antique crystal chandelier, antique side tables and lamps, and a pleasing array of elegantly framed oils, a tapestry, and objects d'art.
The open-plan kitchen of our Paris luxury apartment features a bar overlooking the living room and loads of countertop space, all finished in polished granite. Adding to its dramatic appeal are a stone floor and a display of professional-quality, copper-lined cookware. This fairly large and fully equipped kitchen has a phone and all new appliances, including a four-burner halogen stovetop, convection oven, microwave oven, toaster, coffeemaker, and food processor. The dishwasher and refrigerator are cleverly concealed within the fine custom-built wood cabinets, and you'll find every accessory we think you might need to prepare gourmet meals. We stock all of our kitchens with the finest porcelain dishes, quality stemware, and the best utensils we can find.
Paris and la vie Parisienne revolves around food, and the advantage to staying in a Paris luxury apartment is that there are many open markets nearby so you can shop for the freshest ingredients and already prepared dishes daily and enjoy fine dining at home at great cost savings. Having a kitchen and a dining area are among the many advantages of staying in a Paris luxury apartment, as you don't have to go out for every meal. You can enjoy eating with family and friends without having to get dressed up every evening. The French have mastered the art of ready-prepared dishes and foods, so you don't even have to cook to enjoy great French cuisine. Children (and adults alike) love buying fresh warm croissants at the nearby patisserie each morning, or choosing a special dessert after lunch or dinner. Our guests tell us that shopping for croissants and desserts is the best part of their children's visit!
The master bedroom of our Paris luxury apartment is as dramatic as the living room with its beamed ceilings, loads of sunlit windows, and custom-built furniture.. A long built-in closet features beautifully hand-painted doors that match both the head- and footboards of the large double bed (55" across). Two matching hand-painted bedside tables have antique reading lamps, and a beautiful antique crystal chandelier overhead provides additional lighting. Sit in the comfortable padded armchair and bask in the beauty of this room, with its many stylishly appointments, including an additional phone here.
The master bathroom is decorated with fine marble and tile appointments, brass fixtures, and overhead lighting. It also features a toilet, sink, and a glass-enclosed shower. The wall above the large vanity sink is faced with mirrors, and an ornately framed oval mirror is mounted on a separate wall above a slim dressing table, offering additional 'getting ready' room if two people wish to share. The floors, warmed in winter by a sub-floor heating system, are of unpolished white stone.
A handsome circular wooden staircase leads from the living room down to the lower level, a rare treat in Paris luxury vacation apartments. This large lower room with oak floors, white stone walls, and a vaulted white stone ceiling figuratively throws you back in time to when the Romans occupied this very same island. This room, which does not receive natural light, is brilliantly illuminated with wall sconces and other lighting fixtures, and with its oriental throw rugs and comfortable furniture, it is a striking yet warm and welcoming space. This is where you'll want to gather with family or friends to watch a movie on the VCR or take in the late-night news after dinner. This lower-level room is artfully divided into a seating area with a large sofa and two armchairs and a bedroom area tucked behind a half wall.
One wall of the seating area is lined with custom-made wood cabinets, including one panel that folds down to create a desktop where you'll find electrical outlets and a high-speed Internet connection. There is even a separate telephone line for a fax machine, which can also be used as a printer (the installation disk is made available to guests). In a cabinet on another wall find a TV with dual-standard DVD player, as well as a CD stereo system, so you can bring your favorite movies and music. We've also installed an additional CD stereo and TV with dual-standard DVD player upstairs so children can entertain themselves in this room while adults are enjoying a glass of wine upstairs.
Step behind the half wall made of white stone at the bottom of the stairs to find a roomy second bedroom. Even this cozy niche is dramatic, with its white stone ceiling and walls of natural wood. As in the master bedroom, the bed here is a 55-inch-wide double bed set in a handsome wood frame. Along one wall is a custom-built closet with plenty of hanging and shelf space.
The adjoining bathroom is unlike any other. Illuminated by overhead recessed lighting similar to the master bath, it features a toilet, large sink, and a glass-enclosed shower with a wide-diameter showerhead. The walls are tiled in gray marble with a colorful mosaic stripe, and below the oversized oval mirror is a large porcelain sink set into a uniquely shaped, rust-colored marble vanity. A door from the bath leads to a laundry room where you'll find a top-of-the-line Bosch washing machine and separate dryer.
