Step through the front door and you know you're in Paris the moment you arrive. An antique dresser stands on the left, with a beautiful mahogany marquetry design. Above it hangs an antique gilt mirror from the 1800's with carved bow on top.

You can see the apartment rental's master bedroom with Parisian fireplace and antique armoire and the second bathroom is just ahead with the door closed. A long print of a Medieval village hangs in the long corridor. We had the frame made in the England by a young housepainter, who carved similar houses on the side and painted them in the same colors as the print to stunning effect.

Apartment has exquisite furnishings and excellent security
We found the perfect dresser for the Sancerre Paris apartment rental in Normandy, where Philipp's family comes from. The marquetry design in mahogany is exquisite and of course it provides extra storage for a larger group. Some other details that you notice in this picture: the front door has an excellent lock which bolts at the top and bottom; the door is steel backed. This is an additional factor that you may not think of when you're looking for a Paris apartment rental, but we think good locks and safes are an important touch.

The 7th arrondissement is one of the most established and safest in Paris - that is why so many embassies and famous personalities live here. But it's nice to feel snug and safe in your apartment rental in Paris. Not shown are the apartment building's front doors: the front door has an outer locked door with digicode and an inner door with lock.

The Sancerre apartment is on the fifth floor (sixth floor American and with elevator) and is bathed in sunshine throughout the day. It is elegantly furnished and newly redecorated, offering our guests a truly memorable stay in the City of Light.

The piece de resistance is the spacious living and dining room with four pairs of French doors which lead onto the balcony to stunning views of the Eiffel Tower, gardens of the Champ de Mars, and Parisian life below.

Living room sofa converts to comfortable twin beds
The spacious living area has a sofa bed and armchairs for relaxing after a hard day of walking. The empire-style sofa bed was made for us and we find it more practical and comfortable for guests than traditional sofa beds. It is over two meters long and actually has a twin mattress for the sofa seat, plus a twin trundle which pulls out from underneath. The mattresses are on wooden slats, meaning good support for sitting, napping and sleeping.

A touch of humor to the decoration at Sancerre: we found two armor breastplates and helmets for 'Roman soldiers' which were manufactured for the Cinecitta film studios in Rome in the 1950s. We laughed when we saw them, remembering the Dolce Vita era of Cinecitta's heyday. This was where the larger-than-life productions of Ben Hur, starring Charlton Heston and Cleopatra, with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were filmed. Somewhere among the armies of thousands of extras who played the Roman Army, you will find those two breastplates!

The Sancerre apartment rental kitchen is large by Parisians standards, with double sinks, microwave-convection oven combination, large refrigerator with freezer, four-burner cook top, toaster, coffee pot, electric teapot, and a Nespresso maker, for real style. The combination washer-dryer is top-of-the-line by Miele, as is the Leifheit refrigerator. The cabinets are made of limed oak with classic twisted iron handles from France. We have provided all of the cooking and serving accessories you need with restaurant-quality pots and pans. The white porcelain dishes are from E. Dehellerin in Paris, the shop which furnishes all good restaurants. With a full array of cookware, you can shop the local open markets and shops to prepare your own gourmet meals.

Some guests ask why Europeans have combination washer-dryers instead of separate units -- they notice them for the first time when searching for a good apartment rental in Paris. It comes down to space and engineering. Apartments in Europe are smaller than in the U.S. and space is at a premium. For that reason, engineers invented combination washer-dryers which can do both. And they work very well.

An important difference are the washers themselves, which spin at a faster cycle and leave clothes dryer than the machines we have owned in the U.S.; in many cases, the clothes only take a short while to dry on the drying rack provided. But you can also set the machine to dry and it does a beautiful job.

The Paris apartment's master bedroom features a queen bed, en suite bathroom and balcony. Step onto the balcony and enjoy a south facing view of the top of the Invalides dome, where Napoleon is buried and home to a fascinating military museum. Enjoy the expansive views of blue sky and Parisian rooftops; you know instantly that you are in Paris.

An important note: all of the windows are state-of-the-art double glazed, the same as used in luxury hotels. The apartment is located in the middle of this bustling city, but is extremely quiet for a good night's sleep.

This is a charming room, decorated in French Provençal-style, with elegant blue Toile de Jouy fabric bedspreads on twin beds. Built-in closets mean good storage along with bookshelves and a dresser. You'll also find a flat-screen TV with cable channels plus a dual-standard DVD player for your entertainment.

If you are looking for the right Paris apartment for two couples or a larger family, the Sancerre is perfect because each bedroom is of equivalent size and there are two full bathrooms and two toilets, a rarity in Paris. In addition, each bedroom features a south-facing balcony and view.

There are 2 bathrooms for a comfortable vacation in Paris
On the far side of the master bedroom is the en suite bathroom with bathtub-shower combination and sink. French doors open out onto the balcony and you can just see the top of the Invalides dome. Venetian blinds cover the French doors in our bathroom, which means you have privacy and plenty of light. When we remodeled the apartment we made sure to install an 80 gallon hot water tank, the largest we could find for domestic use. This is not standard in most Paris vacation rentals, but we think it's important and we insist on them wherever possible when we remodel our Paris apartments.

It has a bathtub-shower with glass partition (not shown in photograph), sink and lots of hooks for hanging towels and toilet kits. It is a nice size and practical for larger groups because of its independent access from the main hallway.

The newly remodeled water closet has a toilet, sink and small closet. The French like to have separate toilets and it's great for families because it provides extra getting - ready room before you all go out to visit Paris for the day. Both toilets are located off the entryway, which means you can access them separately and not disturb anyone if you're up late at night. We work hard to provide all the comforts in our Paris apartment rentals.

Second toilet is handy for large families and visitors
The second WC or toilet is a real rarity in Paris apartments. The French believe that one toilet should suffice and it is often difficult to get another toilet into an apartment. But we managed and it's a real convenience when you rent an apartment in Paris.

These old fashioned swings bring back memories of another time. Kids squeal with delight to swing in them and we are reminded that simple pleasures can be as fun as high tech amusement parks. You will notice when looking at Paris maps and searching for Paris apartments that there are few public parks. That is why we love the location of our Paris apartment rentals in the 7th; they are close to the green gardens and playgrounds of the Champs de Mars Gardens.

The apartment is four blocks to the romantic river Seine
Walk to the river, only four blocks away. Take the famous Bateau Mouches boat tours right at the Alma bridge, or wander down the river past the Grand Palais, the Musee d'Orsay to Notre Dame.
