Galeries Lafayette

Galeries Lafayette is the place to go if you’re looking for a last-minute gift for a loved one or a typical French souvenir.  Visit the information desk upon arrival and speak to one of the many multilingual greeters who will explain the layout of the store and the Christmas services offered.  They even have porters to help you carry your purchases!

Even if you’ve finished your Christmas shopping, it’s worth a trip to Galeries Lafayette just to see the beautiful decorations and window displays.  The exterior is illuminated by 2123m2 of lace lighting and the interior features a giant Christmas tree and more festive lighting.

It seems everyone in Paris is talking about the incredible displays in the storefront windows of the Printemps store.  Paying homage to designer Karl Lagerfeld, the eleven windows feature miniature sculptures and elegantly dressed animated puppets.  The amount of work that has gone into creating these displays and the attention to detail is simply amazing; I definitely think they’re among the best department store windows I have ever seen!

If you’re not lucky enough to be in Paris at this wonderful time of year, the pictures and  video of the Printemps windows will hopefully let you feel part of the magic!

Why is the Chateau Latour apartment in Paris better than the Shangri La?

Sunday, November 20th, 2011

A guest from Australia paid us the ultimate compliment by comparing their vacation in the 2 bedroom Chateau Latour Paris apartment rental — with unforgettable Eiffel views and terrace — to the luxurious new Shangri La Hotel.

Quote…”We’ve heard a lot about this luxury 5 star hotel in Paris and visited it to learn more. Here are some basic comparisons”:

The Shangri La Paris is the Hong Kong-based group’s first hotel in Europe and took four years to painstakingly restore. Built by Prince Roland Bonaparte, it has been transformed from a mini-Chateau to a hotel with 54 rooms and 27 suites.  Their Panoramic Suite with Eiffel Tower views costs a mind-blowing €15,000 per night!

The Shangri La’s Panoramic Suite costs €15,000 per night!

The views from the river-facing rooms are fabulous, but we couldn’t help but compare with the views offered by Chateau Latour and some of the other apartments Paris Perfect offers.

Not only does Chateau Latour accommodate up to six people, you have the advantage of living like a Parisian. With an incredible view, you can relax in the living room or fix a meal for family and friends while watching the magic light show in the distance.

The elegant living room opens to a fabulous south facing balcony

Provencal-style master bedroom with en suite bathroom

Relax in the comfortable living room; dine in for the evening to a spectacular view

The Layon luxury rental in Paris offers a closeup view and small balcony from just €285 Per night.

The romantic Champagne apartment with wrap around balcony is priced from €325 and sleeps up to four in comfort.

The terrace of the Cognac apartment is one of the most spectacular views in Paris and sleeps up to 8 from just €515 per night.  Compare them to the Shangri La’s Panoramic Suite at a whopping €15,000 per night!

Chicken Supreme with a Gingerbread Crust & Dijon Mustard Sauce

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Last Thursday, we drove to Burgundy from Paris and spent a wonderful weekend visiting the City of Beaune in the ‘Cote d’Or’ or Golden Coast of France.  We met Philippe’s cousins and friends, a group of wine aficionados from Normandy who organized an amazing weekend of wine tasting and dining for us! If you’re looking for excursions from Paris, we highly recommend paying a visit to Beaune for a single day or overnight stay!  This beautiful City was once the most powerful kingdom of France and has retained its Medieval glory.

There are two TGV’s, or fast trains from the Gare du Lyon in Paris to Beaune every day.  The trip is  only 2 hours and 15 minutes through beautiful French countryside. Alternatively take the TGV to Dijon with  frequent service to Beaune.  Look here for train schedules from Paris to Beaune .

The ‘Cote d’Or’ or Golden Coast of Burgundy is aptly named, beautiful rolling hills,  medieval towns and chateaux along the highway. With winter fog draping over the hills and vines, our appetites were ready to taste wine and sample the delicious cuisine of Burgundy.

Burgundy vineyards covered in fog
Driving through Burgundy after the harvest

I was the wine novice of the group, learning about the famous ‘terroir’ or the unique qualities of the land which makes French wine so remarkable.

We go to Burgundy for wine tasting, good food and site seeing

With the holidays coming, we thought you’d enjoy a new recipe we discovered on our wine tasting trip Burgundy:  Chicken Supreme with a Gingerbread Crust and Dijon Mustard Sauce. It’s easy to make (a priority for me) and incorporates three important ingredients from Burgundy : white wine, Dijon mustard and ginger bread.

I knew that some of the best white wines in France are made from Chardonnay grapes in this region, so that ingredient was obvious. We named the Chardonnay apartment after this excellent grape which goes into most of the fine white wines of Burgundy.

Dijonnaise mustard is a staple at our house, especially when we coat it on chicken.

But I didn’t know that Burgundy is also famous for
.gingerbread! Remembering our own family tradition making gingerbread houses, I couldn’t resist trying it.  The dish is excellent; an unusual and savoury combination of the sourness of mustard with wine, poured over the chicken that has been covered and roasted with ginger bread crumbs.

SuprĂȘme de Volaille en CroĂ»te de Pain d’Epice et Moutarde au Miel

Chicken Coated with Gingerbread Crumbs, Served with a Mustard Sauce from Burgundy

For 4 people

Ingredients

  • 6 chicken breasts, thighs or whole legs (I prefer dark meat so bought legs with thighs)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 small loaf gingerbread – approx 1 œ cups gingerbread crumbs (There are several easy options: buy gingerbread cookies and grind to crumbs. Buy gingerbread cake or cookie mix, bake, dry out and whizz in the food processor.)
  • 60 grams (1/2 cup) butter
  • 60 grams (1/2 cup) flour
  • 600 ml (2 œ cups) white wine
  • 1 œ cups finely chopped shallots
  • 120 grams (1 cup) of Dijon mustard with honey. Use the strongest you can find.  (If you can’t find it with honey, add 2 tablespoons honey to 1 cup of Dijon mustard)
  • 200 ml(approx. 1 cup) chicken bouillon

Fry the chicken until brown

Steps

Preheat oven to 385 F or 180 C

  1. Bake or buy gingerbread, dry in oven and whizz in the food processor to make 1 C. (Or follow the easy gingerbread recipe, cut into slices, dry in the oven and use a food processor to whizz into breadcrunbs (or whizz gingerbread cookies into breadcrumbs)
  2. Brown the chicken breasts in a skillet with a little vegetable oil, then roll in the gingerbread crumbs.
  3. Place on a tray uncovered in the oven at 180 degrees (385 degrees F) for approximately 35 minutes. If getting too brown, cover with foil.
  4. In a skillet, melt the butter and gradually add the flour. Stir rapidly so flour doesn’t get any lumps. Cook for five minutes and set the roux aside.
  5. Cook chopped shallots in some olive oil until they start to brown.  Pour in the wine and chicken stock, cook until it starts to boil and keep cooking for five minutes.
  6. Slowly add the roux (butter/flour mixture) to the sauce (wine/shallot mixture), stirring all the time.
  7. Remove from heat. Let cool slightly and add the mustard. Something I learned about the process of making good mustard: never let it get too warm or it will lose its flavor
  8. Season with salt and pepper
  9. Pour over baked chicken and serve!

Be sure to let us know what you thought of the dish!

Enjoy Paris in November

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

Most people are probably familiar with the lilting old song, “I love Paris in the springtime”, but Paris is also known for its gorgeous views, lovely attractions and wonderful winter celebrations in the autumn and winter seasons as well. Although not seen by many as the destination for their autumn or winter trip, Paris during November through to January can offer city break lovers and sightseeing enthusiasts a rich and glorious taste of Parisian hospitality and warmth during the cooler seasons.

Enjoying Paris during November allows holidaymakers a more affordable experience as accommodation and travel are known to be more expensive during the busier spring/summer seasons. Another benefit of visiting during the cooler months is that the streets and tourist attractions are far less crowded and you also have increased availability for your travel and apartment options.  Stunning Paris apartments that are often booked up well in advance during the summer are more likely to be available for the dates you wish to travel, even if you book last minute.

Renting an apartment is common, and often the suggested and frequently preferred way to stay. Our Paris apartments are available in a range of different sizes ranging from cosy one or two bedroom studios up to lavish and spacious three bedroom options, each providing the conveniences of extra comfort and central locations.

Our Paris vacation rentals can be found dotted around the numerous unique sights and attractions that Paris offers its visitors throughout the year. Chic apartments located near the iconic Eiffel Tower, the famous Notre Dame cathedral or nestled in between the tall stone shops and charming Parisian coffee houses are a great attraction in themselves.

One of the most notable occasions during a Parisian November is the Festival d’Automne, or Autumn Festival. Starting back in 1972 by the then minister of culture, Michel Guy, the Festival d’Automne for the 2011 season begins Thursday 15th September, running throughout November and ending just before Christmas on December 21’st. The festival is home to rich artisan crafts and fun exhibits which appeal to both the avant-garde as well as the more traditional traveller.

Other things not to miss in November include the FĂȘte du Beaujolais Gourmand (19th-23rd November) a celebration of the new French wine on the day of its release plus there are plenty of other cultural interests like the National Museum of Art, the Notre Dame Cathedral and other local religious buildings. With their magnificent designs, these characteristically conceived buildings characterise the pinnacle of ageless French architecture.

Deciding to head to Paris during November is an excellent choice and travellers will enjoy the unique and relaxed atmosphere of the quiet beauty and subtle charm that embodies this captivating city.

This post was written by travel blogger Roxi B who gets to combine two things she loves. Writing and Traveling. It’s her job to travel the world and give fellow travelers advice on a range of topics ranging from where to get cheap car hire in London to the best authentic restaurants in Morocco.

The Magic of Paris – Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris

Midnight in Paris Movie Poster

If you have wandered the cobblestone streets of Paris, watched the setting sunlight reflected in the Seine or succumbed in any number of countless ways to the romance of Paris, you know how the beauty of this city sinks deep into your heart. If there’s anyone who can paint of portrait in film of this romance—of the city and the person who falls in love with it—it’s Woody Allen. Paris lovers are in luck, because Allen turned his creative eye on our beloved City of Light in his film Midnight in Paris released earlier this year. Where else but in Paris could one of the most delightful and romantic movies of the year be set? Guests at our Paris Perfect apartment rentals have asked where some the gorgeous scenes were filmed, and we reveal all here. Come along with us and fall in love with the magic of Paris by visiting some of our favorite locations where Woody Allen filmed Midnight in Paris!

Famous Sights of Paris

The movie opens with a gorgeous montage that makes Midnight in Paris a must see on the big screen if you can. This is Paris at its most magical—the monuments, the views, the changing colors—everything that draws you in. The romantic montage is the perfect backdrop for a conversation between a man, obviously smitten with Paris, and a woman who decidedly does not share his views.

The Magic of Paris

The romance of Paris!

Monet’s Garden in Giverny

Swept away by the romance of Paris, we land in the peaceful gardens of Giverny where  a blond haired couple stand on the bridge where Monet created so many of his dreamy waterlily paintings. The magic of Paris has found its way into the romantic and nostalgic heart of Gil (played by Owen Wilson), a Hollywood screenwriter struggling through his first novel. Gil is on holiday in Paris with his much more practically minded fiancée Inez (Rachel McAdams) and her conservative parents. With differing views on many points, Gil and Inez naturally disagree on the charms of Paris. Gil has fallen in love with the romance of Paris and finds inspiration for his novel around every corner, while Inez is much more focused on their upcoming wedding.

Claude Monet's Garden in Giverny

Located just 80 km west of Paris, Monet’s gardens at Giverny is a wonderful day trip from Paris. Enjoy a day strolling through the landscape that inspired Monet, and then head back to Paris to see the paintings he created just like Gil and Inez do in Midnight in Paris.

Monet’s Water Lilies at L’Orangerie

Admiring Monet at l'Orangerie

Gil and Inez are driven further apart when they bump into John and Carol, friends of Inez from America. Although John is quite pompous, and a “pseudo intellectual” as Gil describes him, Inez finds his know-it-all attitude captivating while Gil finds him pedantic. The two couples visit the MusĂ©e de l’Orangerie, admiring Monet’s mesmerizing Les NymphĂ©as paintings inspired by the gardens at Giverny.

The Rodin Museum

Gil and Inez also visit the beautiful Rodin Museum with Paul and Carol, one of our favorite spots in the 7th arrondissement. While Paul promenades through the gardens extolling his misinformed knowledge of Rodin, he is politely corrected by the museum guide played by the beautiful First Lady of France Carla Bruni. Gil is taken by the museum guide, and he returns to ask her help during his later adventures in Paris.

Owen Wilson & Carla Bruni in a scene at the Rodin Museum

The Rodin Museum is set in a beautiful 18th-century mansion where the artist lived and worked. The peaceful gardens, famous for the varieties of roses, form a lovely backdrop to Rodin’s sculptures on display. Although we would much prefer to have Carla Bruni as our guide rather than Paul!

Midnight in Paris Locations

The battle of the guides at the Rodin Museum

Palace and Gardens of Versailles

Paul is the know-it-all leader as the couples make another day trip from Paris to the Chateau de Versailles. The more time Gil spends listening to Paul talk while his finacée soaks it up without questioning anything, the more he wants to discover the Paris that he finds inspirational. Inez, however, is much more interested in the pseudo intellectual Paris offered by Paul.

Daytrip to Versailles

A daytrip to Versailles in Midnight in Paris

Strolling through the stunning gardens at Versailles like Gil and Inez is a magical moment. There is still that feeling of royal splendor that makes it seem like you could turn a corner and find that you’ve stepped back into history, too! Only 20 km southwest of Paris, the Palace of Versailles is easily reachable by train from the center of the city.

Hotel Le Bristol

Gil and Inez stay in the luxurious five star Hîtel Le Bristol in the 8th arrondissement, and many of the scenes were shot there, including the amusing scene where Gil tries to explain his dressed up appearance for his inspirational walks through Paris at night. Inez has no idea of the adventures she’s missing!

Midnight in Paris hotel scene

For a luxurious stay in Paris without the unbelievable cost of a 5 star hotel, consider a stay in one of our gorgeous Paris Perfect luxury apartments in the 7th arrondissement. Enjoy romantic views of Paris, fabulous central locations, elegant décor and the comforts of your own apartment in one of our many apartments just across the Seine from the Le Bristol, such as our Champagne or Volnay Paris rentals.

Le Grand Vefour

The restaurant Le Grand Véfour exudes 18th-century Parisian glamour, and is the setting Woody Allen chose for a lunch scene with Gil, Inez and her parents. Located in the arcades of the lovely Palais Royal in the 1st arrondissement, Le Grand Véfour has been a Parisian institution for over 200 years. We love the wonderful shopping and the pretty gardens at the Palais Royal, which are very near our grand Musigny three bedroom apartment.

Les Puces de Saint-Ouen

Gil and Inez visit the famous Paris flea market Les Puces de Saint-Ouen located at Porte de Clignancourt. While Inez shops, Gil meets Gabrielle, a friendly woman selling antiques and memorabilia who shares his passion for the music and art of 1920s Paris.

Gil talking to Léa Seydoux's Gabrielle

You can visit Les Puces during your holiday in Paris, and perhaps discover a treasure from the past, too. It covers seven hectares and is the largest antique market in the world, receiving between 120,000 to 180,000 visitors each weekend. We often visit the markets to find beautiful antiques to decorate our luxury Paris apartment rentals. We even have some great hints and tips to help you navigate Les Puces on your next visit!

Seine River

Just like Gil, I love walking along the banks of the Seine. It doesn’t matter what time of day—early morning as the sun rises, or sunset when the city turns pink, or at night when the lights stretch across the dark water—it’s always beautiful. The heart of Paris is small enough that you can walk to many favorite spots, and that’s just what Gil does.

Gil takes a contemplative stroll by the River Seine.

Whether it’s during the day or during Gil’s fantastical midnight adventures in 1920s Paris, many scenes in the movie were filmed along the Seine. On one of his walks he passes Les Bouquinistes, the bookstalls lining the Seine that sell antique and secondhand books, prints and many other treasures.

In another scene with Gil and the museum guide played by Carla Bruni, they sit in the beautiful garden behind the Cathedral of Notre Dame on the Ile de la CitĂ© island in the middle of the Seine River. This is such a peaceful and romantic spot in Paris, and not far from our EchĂ©zeaux two bedroom Paris apartment overlooking the Ile de la Cité’s charming Place Dauphine.

Deyrolle

Shopping at Deyrolle

Unusual finds at Deyrolle in Paris

Deyrolle—perhaps one of Paris’ most unusual shops—is the perfectly surreal setting for Gil’s midnight adventures in Paris. Founded in 1831, this store dates from the time of French Kings and Queens. The ground floor of Deyrolle has been transformed into a chic gardening store called Le Prince Jardinier.

I'm not sure if I'd host a cocktail party in Deyrolle!

Deyrolle is located on rue du Bac, less than 5 mintes from several of our Paris apartment rentals including:  Nuits Saint Georges and Corton.

Famous Literary Cafés

Fitting right in with the literary and artistic ambiance of Midnight in Paris is a stroll along the Boulevard Saint-Germain to St-Germain-des-PrĂ©s, long considered the literary heart and soul of Paris. Gil’s nighttime adventures take him back into the world of writers and artists and the lively cafĂ© scene they created in Paris. Since Le Precope, the world’s first coffeehouse, opened in 1686, artists, writers and eminent intellectuals have made the St-Germain-des-PrĂ©s cafĂ©s their regular haunts. Soak up the nostalgic atmosphere at the most famous cafĂ©s, Les Deux Magots, CafĂ© de Flore, Le Precope, Brasserie Lipp and CafĂ© Bonaparte.

Café de Flore - popular with philosophers like Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir.

Shakespeare and Company

With his real life literary pursuits and his nighttime adventures with the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway and Gertrude Stein to just name a few, is no surprise that we see Gil leave the famous Shakespeare and Company bookstore just across the Seine from Notre Dame. It still draws a large and artistic expat crowd, and is a fun stop while exploring the Ile de la Cité and the Latin Quarter!

The Latin Quarter

Gil’s nighttime adventures into the Paris of the 1920s begin in the Latin Quarter, where he gets lost one night. As he sits down on the steps of the church Saint Etienne-du-Mont near the PanthĂ©on in the 5th arrondissement, a vintage car pulls up and a group of partygoers in 1920s clothing invite him inside. Time and time again in the movie, he returns to this small flight of stairs on the side of Saint Etienne-du-Mont at the stroke of midnight to travel back in time.

Pont Alexandre III

At the end of Midnight in Paris, Gil meets Gabrielle again and offers to walk her home in the rain. Woody Allen captures the magic and romance of Paris in the rain as they walk across the Pont Alexandre III, one of the most extravagantly beautiful bridges over the Seine.

Our First Review for Our New Monet & Renoir Apartments!

Saturday, October 1st, 2011

We recently added two beautiful properties, Monet and Renoir, to our Paris Perfect portfolio and are so excited to share the very first guest review!

Thanks to the Paris Perfect Team, our “girls” getaway to Paris was fantastic! We stayed in the Monet and Renoir apartments. First, let me say the view from these apartments is THE most SPECTACULAR in Paris! Views from both the Living Room and Dining Room (on the first floor) include the Eiffel Tower (you are close enough to actually see the people walking up the steps to the Eiffel Tower). To the left is the TrocadĂ©ro. Straight ahead is the Sacre Coeur (exceptionally beautiful around 5 PM when the sun hits it and it actually illuminates). To the right is Les Invalides.

These apartments were exceptionally large, clean and comfortable. The bedrooms cozy with the best linens, matresses and pillows for a great sleep after a busy day. The bathrooms are roomy with great bathtubs to soak and relax. The kitchen well equipted with washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven, stovetop, microwave and full refrigerator. The utinsils and cooking equipment worked out well for us to prepare some meals in. Breakfast was easy with eggs and fresh croisants from the local bakery. The apartment also has a great Nespresso machine that was used often (and convenient to get refills from the Paris Perfect office). Afternoons we would stop by the markets to pick up fresh baguettes, dessert, wine, pate, cheese and have a great spread to enjoy as everyone shared their adventures of the day.

We’ve stayed with Paris Perfect several times before, and this last visit reminded us why we would not even consider staying in a hotel or make arrangements with any other company offering apartments. This Team is the BEST! Professional. Accomodating. Accessable.

On our last evening we were planning on going to bed early because of our 6 AM flights…..but ended staying up until 3 AM so we could watch the 1 AM final show on the eiffel tower and visit a little longer. We are already planning our next visit…..and will without a doubt be working with Paris Perfect again.

Cindy O, Edwardsburg, USA

Thank You Cindy, we always love receiving feedback from our guests and are delighted to hear that you had a wonderful stay in our Monet and Renoir apartments.  We still can’t believe how lucky we were to find apartments with such spectacular Eiffel views and hope you managed to get loads of great photos during your stay.  Looking forward to welcoming you back to a Paris Perfect apartment in the near future.

Best Place to Shop in Paris -- la rue de Commerce

Sharing One of our Paris Secrets — The Best Shopping Street in Paris!

Would you believe me if I told you that one of Paris’ best shopping streets is hidden just around the corner from the Eiffel Tower, surely the city’s most-visited monument? Follow along with me, and I’ll share with you this little shopping secret in Paris’ 15th arrondissement, just across the beautiful Champ de Mars gardens from our favorite neighborhood in the 7th arrondissement. It’s called rue du Commerce, a very appropriate name for a wonderful shopping street!

Rue du Commerce - a few minutes from the Eiffel Tower

There are over one hundred boutiques packed into this lovely tree-lined street. A shopping delight!

Over 100 boutiques packed into pretty tree-lined Paris avenue

The first time I walked along the rue du Commerce, I realized I had stumbled across one of the best hidden shopping streets in Paris. Not only for the selection, which covers everything from one-of-a-kind boutiques to affordable fashions, but because I was shopping where the locals go. As I stepped out in the street to take a few photos, I relished the fact that I was the only person in sight with a camera. If you’re visiting Paris, it’s a short walk from many of our vacation rentals in the 7th arrondissement.

The charming rue du Commerce is packed with boutiques on a quiet one-way street

Start at the top where Ave de la Motte Piquet meets rue du Commerce and plan on spending a leisurely morning or afternoon.  It’s only five minutes walk our newest Paris short term rentals, which we’re excited to share with you.  The Renoir and Monet Paris rentals boast show-stopping Eiffel Tower views and a perfect central location — close to Commerce, close to the renowned Grenelle open air market and near all the excellent restaurantse in the 7th.

Our college-age son needed some basics before going back to Boston last Fall.  He found the boat shoes he was looking for, nice polo shirts for a bargain price, cotton slacks in pale green and blue …. even underwear.  Everything is just that little bit different from clothes in the U.S. where he goes to college – the  latest colors, more tailored shirts and slacks.

What we find so refreshing about rue du Commerce are the dozens of excellent fashion boutiques.  These stores sell the latest trends in fashion without the big expensive labels.  You don’t find them in the expensive couture streets in Paris.  Just ike Reciproque, the best designer consignment store in the nearby 16th, this is where in-the-know Parisians shop.

FL – New Paris Restaurant Attracting Excellent Reviews

Tender beef with fresh seasonal vegetables

There’s a new restaurant in Paris that has been drawing excellent reviews from French food critics. FL (how the French pronounce Eiffel) is run by rising chef Nicolas Valanchon.  It’s located on the Left Bank’s 7th arrondissement on a small side street near the Champs de Mars and Eiffel Tower. Tasty and reasonably-priced FL is at 1 rue Augereau, just 2 minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower. . This small and inviting restaurant specializes in Valanchon’s home region of Picardie, home to excellent dishes that aren’t well known among the Paris foodies.

Original and tasty starter, a trio of fresh tomatoes

Valanchon has an enviable cooking resume!  He grew up in Amiens, Normandy and worked as a sous-chef at the famous Westminster Hotel in Le Touquet, a luxury hotel and restaurant in this resort town of Normandy.  He was a sous chef at the 3-star George V and then at Drouant. Nicolas moved to Australia for two years where he worked under the Tony Bilsan, the godfather of Australian cuisine.

Risotta with fresh spring vegetables -- fabulous!

Each menu is designed around the seasons of the year, selecting only the freshest ingredients. His specialty is dishes from Picardie, a lesser known region of France bordering Normandy. They include variations of the famous Ficelle Picard, crepes with ham and duxelle mushrooms. Valanchon’s delicate version uses a Mille Fille pastry, delicate sauce and is delicious.  Other dishes are home made foie gras with poached beet roots, roasted chicken breasts with white asparagus and sautĂ©ed red onions, fish of the day with white Asparagus, sweet Onions, Lemon and Limoncello butter.  For dessert we enjoyed an almond macaron on a chocolate base and a chocolate fondant with marinated orange strips.

Menu is created around the freshest ingredients of the season

The prices are reasonable.  Starters range from € 9 to € 12 and main courses from € 17 to € 19.

Original menu ideas, filling and delicious

We had an excellent meal and will be back soon.  It’s starting to attract a loyal following of discerning Parisians;  we recommend you try it before it becomes impossible to get a table.

The French Will Never Forget: A Commemoration of 9/11 in Paris

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

The Sign on the Towers Reads in French and English: The French Will Never Forget

Paris will never forget the thousands who died on September 11, 2011 .  A solemn event commemorated this terrible day organized by  ‘The French Will Never Forget’,  Association.  It took place at the Trocadero, across the river from the Eiffel Tower.

The Towers of the World Trade Center were symbolically erected at the Palais Chaillot,.  The American and French flags flew on the spires of the Palais, the largest flags ever made in France, measuring 59 feet x 30 feet.  The two white towers framed the Eiffel Tower in the background, symbolizing the union of these two nations.

I walked to the Trocadero with a friend and we stood in solemn silence as the moment of the first impact was marked.  Ambassador Charles Rifkin, the American Ambassador to France attended as did the French Ambassador to Washington.

The American and French flags flying over Paris

The ceremony opened with French children carrying the large flags that were raised over the memorial while choirs from the Académie de Musique and Young American Presidential Scholars of The Arts sang the French National Anthem and the American National Anthems. It brought tears to my eyes.

With many others, we stood in silence at the moment of the impact of the first airplane. And waited for the moment of the second impact while the choir sang.  It was a gray day in Paris and the skies opened up with rain at 8:46, one minute after the first plane hit the World Trade Center., an eerie reflection of this sad and somber moment.

To  the  2.976 victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center and to their families and friends — we will never forget you.
