My husband Philippe’s birthday was last Thursday and I was struggling to find something special to offer him.   Then,  I walked past Dubernet, the shop which sells specialties from the Southwest of France on rue Augereau in the 7th and the lightbulb went on! This shop is tucked away on a quiet street, but well known throughout Paris. President Obama and first lady Michelle dined in our favorite neighborhood last night, at the charming Fontaine de Mars bistro.  Guests know that it’s one of our top recommendations, specializing in French cuisine from Perigord and the Basque country.   As the AP newswire reported:  ‘A week after flying to New York for dinner and a Broadway show, President Barack Obama and first lady, Michelle, dined at a cozy neighborhood bistro just a few blocks from the Eiffel Tower.’  That is what we love about our neighborhood and La Fontaine de Mars exemplifies it.  It’s located on the charming square de l’Exposition, where a fountain flows with water from ancient aqueducts, day and night. The restaurant dates from 1908 and has charming red and white check table clothes and napkins.  Good service, good food.and good choice for Paris.
