Bayeux is ten minutes drive away, a medieval town on a river and home of the famous tapestry of the Norman Invasion and 1066 fame. And of course, Normandy itself is a simply beautiful region where you can enjoy the beach, bicycling, golf tennis and great food.
Location: Better than most hotels in Normandy France, this beautiful manoir and its guest house are located in Douvres-la-Delivrande, a charming, lively village in Normandy. You and your family can experience French – from shopping for your daily baguette to finding your fresh camembert from Normndy at the local market. This experience is more memorable and enjoyable than ‘passing through’ a hotel in Normandy. Additionally, the caretakers who live on site can even provide daily housekeeping and cooking for a reasonable supplement. There is free high speed Internet access at both homes and computers, so you can check emails or work while enjoying the beautiful coast of Normandy.
The village which surrounds the house is delightful: there is a weekly open market which you can walk to in the Church Square. It is also fun to walk to the local baker, patisserie, greengrocer, butcher etc. Normandy is a gorgeous region region of France where you will find: Hiking, Biking, Golf, Fishing, Shopping, Restaurants, Museums, Sightseeing, Swimming, Boating, Sailing, Windsurfing, Omaha Beach Golf Course and Shopping superstores nearby.
Striking grounds and garden surround the manoir and smaller guest house. The manoir sleeps up to 10 people and the guest house sleeps up to 5.
The Manoir (sleeps up to 10):
This beautiful home has been painstakingly restored to its original beauty and is surrounded by a large garden, wonderful for sitting outside and enjoying long meals on sunny days. Its village location means you can walk to your local baker, the weekly local market in the church square, the patisserie, greengrocer, butcher etc – all part of the charm of staying in France. It is an excellent base for exploring Normandy, one of the unspoiled regions of France.
The house has 5 large bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and can sleep up to ten. In addition, there is a guest cottage with living room, three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms which sleeps six and is also available for rent. These buildings are surrounded by a large and quiet private garden. A private caretaker lives in the original caretakers lodge from the 1800’s and is available to cater meals, provide daily housekeeping etc. for an additional fee.
Enter the Manor House from the courtyard and path through the garden to the entry hall. This is a large, sunny room with marble floors and touches of red. There is a large, comfortable beige sofa and two mahogany banquettes to make a comfortable, welcoming lounge. Guests enjoy lounging in this room or on the comfortable chaises longues in the garden at the end of a long day.
The large dining room with antique fireplace is on your right, decorated in French country style. The antique trestle table can seat up to ten and gives the room a warm ambiance, for lively meals together during your stay.
From the dining room find the large kitchen, with all the modern appliances needed to cook a gourmet feast from the food you find at the local shops and weekly open market. This is a sunny room with antique wooden table that seats 8, great for preparing meals and conversation. The kitchen has doors which open directly onto the garden and a large table and umbrella means you can eat outside on sunny days.
The sunny conservatory is next after the kitchen. This beautiful room has a table which expands to seat ten, delightful for entertaining. It opens onto the garden where there is a second picnic table for outdoor dining.
From the entrance hall, walk up the staircase to the first floor. The long living room is straight ahead. The room has enormous windows which overlook the garden and is very sunny. There is comfortable seating on one end, with daybed, empire style sofa and armchairs. On the opposite end, you see the beautiful original fireplace tea table and chairs set for tea. The walls are painted in trompe l’œil to resemble pale wood, contrasting with the red upholstery. This room has a stereo and there is free high speed internet so you can stay in touch while enjoying beautiful Normandy.
On your right find the master bedroom with en suite dressing room and bath, with king-sized bed and tons of closets. There is a tv, with satellite reception for CNN, CNBC, BBC etc. Also a dvd player to enjoy while relaxing.
The master bathroom is gorgeous: tiled in pale and dark marble, with sunken bathtub, enormous shower, toilet and double sinks. You won’t want to leave after a long soak!
Continue to the second floor to find Bedroom 2 with en suite bath on the far right. There are 2 single beds which can be made up together or separately. This is a pretty room, with beige toile de jouy bedspread and antique fireplace (as do all the bedrooms). There is an expansive view over the gardens. The bedroom has an en suite bath tiled in white and terra cotta colors and features bathtub, sink and toilet.
Bedroom 3 is next, with double bed and large window overlooking the garden. There is a connecting bathroom with toilet, sink and shower
Bedroom 4 has a double bed and is decorated in pale beiges. It connects to the bathroom with shower, sink and toilet.
Bedroom 5 is on the far left end of the hallway, with large windows and double bed. The en suite shower, sink and toilet are tiled in white with a pale blue frieze.
There is free high speed wireless internet access and a computer so you can check your emails and stay in touch while on vacation.
The Guest Cottage (sleeps up to 6):
This charming cottage is an ancient stone building which has been painstakingly remodeled and beautifully decorated as you can see from the pictures. It has a spacious living room, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms to sleep up to 6. It is located a short distance from the Manor house and shares the enormous private garden. The entrance is thorugh the main gates and to the left.
Enter the living room from a small patio with table and chairs outside. The living room is furnished with comfortable pale sofas and antique oil painting which contrasts beautifully with the stone walls. This is a beautiful room and great for relaxing in after a day of visiting the D-Day landing beaches or other historic points of the region.
There is free high speed wireless internet access and a computer so you can check your emails and stay in touch while on vacation.
The small kitchen with a second living area is next, a sunny room with every appliance and convenience you need for cooking and enjoying your stay. This second living room has a sofa bed to sleep one to two people.
The first bedroom next to the kitchen sleeps two with twin beds.
Walk up a short flight of stairs to the second and third bedrooms, which are sunny and overlook the tranquil garden. The rooms are charming, under the eaves of this beautiful home.
The master bedroom has a dual king bed and view which overlooks the garden. The exposed beams and pale colors make this an elegant room.
The bathroom is en suite to both the master bedroom. It includes bathtub with shower, sink and toilet and uses small beige tiles from the region to contrast with the exposed beams on the ceiling.
A second bathroom with shower, toilet and sink is just off the kitchen.
The third bedroom has twin beds. It is a large room with restored fireplace, decorated increams with accents of red.
