Add a burst of color to your visit to Paris this winter with a visit to the Musée Eugène Delacroix, one of the city’s loveliest small museums. Dedicated to the work of one of France’s most famous painters, the Musée Delacroix is located in the building that was once the artist’s studio and apartment. Located just off the charming Place de Furstenberg near the historic Saint-Germain-des-Prés Church, the Musée Delacroix is one of the treasures of the 6th arrondissement that many visitors miss during their stay in Paris.

The Musée Delacroix has a beautiful little garden where the artist once sat outside planning his masterpieces and absorbing inspiration from nature. The garden was one of the features that appealed most to Delacroix and is why be chose to move his studio in 1857. It is perhaps even here where he gathered flowers that appeared in some of his sketches and paintings of lavish and colorful floral displays.

To celebrate the renovation of the garden, the Musée Delacroix is presenting a special exhibition called Flowers in Winter, which is the first dedicated to the artist’s major paintings and watercolors of flowers. With striking colors and rich textures, these are the paintings that inspired Delacroix’s contemporaries as well as later artists such as Van Gogh and Gauguin. This exhibition also highlights the continuing influence of the floral theme into the 21st century by featuring works by contemporary artists Jean-Michel Othoniel and Johan Creten that have been inspired by flowers.

The exhibit Flowers in Winter runs from December 12, 2012- March 18, 2013 at the Musée Delacroix. If you’ll be visiting Paris this winter, now is the perfect time to visit this charming little museum. For more information, visit the Musée Delacroix or Louvre Museum websites.
