On a recent wintery Saturday, my sister Lisa and I enjoyed a brisk 4-mile walk from the Eiffel Tower, along the Seine, to our destination, 25 Place Dauphine to put up some Christmas decorations.
It was one of the coldest days of this holiday season, but we took off some of the winter chill by stopping along the way at one of my favorite crepe stands, for a bite and some mulled wine.
On the way back we stopped at the upscale Bon Marche department store at Sevres Babylon. It was sparkling for the holidays and bustling with shoppers who were marveling at the interesting artisans from throughout France that had been invited to display their work, from graffiti artists customizing sneakers to talented jewelry makers.
Suddenly, there was loud classical music and the crowds stopped to marvel at a vision of sugar plum ducks descending the escalator, unlike any Nutcracker performance we’ve ever seen. It was a magical end to a perfect Saturday.
We hope you have a lovely festive season and we wish you all the best for a wonderful holiday!
